European Medical Device Nomenclature: The official classification system used for registering medical devices in EUDAMED under EU regulations.
The European Medical Device Nomenclature was established by the European Commission to support the implementation of the MDR and IVDR. Built directly upon the Italian CND Code taxonomy, EMDN provides an alphanumeric, hierarchical structure that categorises devices by clinical application and anatomical target. Manufacturers must assign EMDN codes to their devices when creating registrations in EUDAMED and linking them to their Basic UDI-DI.
